Data Files
A data file is one of the most common file types on a computer system, storing various pieces of data. It can be a plain text file, encoded file (encrypted), or binary file format. The data file category is vast, encompassing thousands of proprietary formats across numerous software applications.
Data can be stored in structured or unstructured formats. Markup languages like HTML and XML provide rules for structured data storage, enabling easy reading and manipulation by programs.
Unstructured data files lack a predefined model and are typically text-heavy. Examples include metadata, documents, analog data, health records, and multimedia content.
