Raster Image Files

A raster image file, or bitmap image, stores image data in a displayable format using a dot-matrix structure. It consists of a rectangular pixel grid, where each pixel represents a tiny part of the image with its own color value. The combined pixels form the complete picture.

Higher pixel counts in raster images result in better image quality. Raster graphics are resolution-dependent, meaning they can only scale to their original resolution without losing quality (becoming “pixelated”). Therefore, higher-resolution images are preferable for larger displays.
