Audio Files

An audio file stores digital audio data on a computer system. The conversion of analog audio to digital form, known as audio encoding, is performed by audio codecs. The encoded data is stored in a container format called the audio file format.

Audio files contain waveform data and can be either uncompressed or compressed. Typically, audio data is stored in a compressed form using lossy compression to save storage space.
